Candace Owens out at Daily Wire

The Hill reports that conservative commentator Candace Owens has ended her relationship with The Daily Wire. Jeremy Boreing who co-founded The Daily Wire announced the separation in a social media post on Friday.

Owens confirmed the separation in a Tweet of her own stating, “the rumors are true— I am finally free.”

Owens has been an outspoken critic of the U.S. government’s involvement in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Earlier this week, The Anti-Defamation League had targeted Owens by raising alarms that alt-right gadfly Nick Fuentes’ was praising some of her comments on Jews.

Owens responded to the ADL saying, “I do not know Nick Fuentes, but you already know that. What I do know is that everyone can see what you guys are doing to me. Your pattern is well established and the world is waking up to it. My crime is having stood up for myself against your network of smears.”

Owens continued, ““My crime, is that I do not believe that American taxpayers should have to pay for Israel’s wars or the wars of any other country. I will not change my mind. So the question is what will you do to me next? The world is watching.”

Owens had faced internal criticism from fellow Daily Wire commentator Ben Shapiro who disagreed with her comments on Israel and Hamas. The Hill reports that this prompted Boreing to release a statement clarifying that the company would not fire Owens based on, “a desire not to regulate the speech of our hosts, even when we disagree with them.”

Boreing continued, “Candace is paid to give her opinion, not mine or Ben’s. Unless those opinions run afoul of the law or she violates the terms of her contract in some way, her job is secure and she is welcome at Daily Wire.”
