Poll: Muslims most discriminated group in US, but Jews not far behind

Religion News reports that a new poll shows Muslims face the most discrimination in American society with Jews coming in a close second.

The survey was conducted by the Pew Research Center and found that the number of people who said that there is a lot of discrimination against Jews has doubled over the past three years from 20% to 40%.

The poll of 12, 693 U.S. adults was taken in February and reflects changing attitudes toward U.S. Jews in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks by Hamas in Israel.

Muslims remain atop the list of religious and ethnic groups facing discrimination, according to the poll, with 44% of American adults surveyed saying that Muslims face a lot of discrimination. That number is up from 39% just three years ago.

According to Religion News, the share of respondents who say Jews face a lot of discrimination is 40%, which is identical to the number who say the same about blacks.

The survey found little partisan division over whether Jews faced more discrimination with 61% of Republicans agreeing along with 57% of Democrats.

However, a sharper partisan divide can be seen regarding increased discrimination against Muslims with Democrats being twice as likely to say such discrimination is increasing.
