Man claims God told him to shoot pastor during service but gun jammed

A Pennsylvania pastor’s life was miraculously saved when a man who attempted to shoot him during his Sunday sermon failed because his gun jammed. The Christian Post reports that the Rev. Glenn Germany of Jesus’ Dwelling Place in North Braddock, PA is crediting God with intervening to save his life.

Germany told the Associated Press, ““I am feeling grateful that I woke up this morning and that I am here. It could have gone an opposite direction. God has intervened and I am grateful for Him.”

In a Facebook video shared by Germany, the pastor is seen talking to his congregation when 26 year old Bernard J. Polite walks into frame and points a pistol directly at the pastor. Germany instantly ducks and begins to run for cover behind the pulpit.

Polite is quickly tackled by by deacon Clarence McAllister before Germany helps McAllister disarm the man and hold him for police.

According the AP, Polite told police, “God told me to do it.” He also told authorities that he intended to wait to be arrested so he could go to jail and clear his mind.

Polite is facing charges of aggravated assault and attempted homicide. Police reported that the body of a 56 year old man named Derek Polite was found in a home near the church but they have not yet said whether Bernard Polite is connected with the death.
