Whistleblower doctor Eithan Haim, wife recount dark days of DOJ battle
February 26, 2025
A surgeon who faced up to a decade in prison for blowing the whistle on secret transgender procedures being performed on minors at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) is speaking about about his ordeal.
The Christian Post reports that Dr. Eithan Haim and his wife Andrea sat down recently with journalist Catherine Herridge to discuss their battle with the Biden administration’s Dept. of Justice (DOJ).
Haim was notified in June 2023 that he was under federal investigation for leaking documents showing that Houston-based TCH was continuing to perform “gender-affirming services” on minors despite telling the public it had stopped such procedures.
The surgeon told Herridge that he faced up to a decade in prison and $250,000 in fines for providing the documents to journalist Christopher Rufo.
According to the Christian Post, the documents had redacted personally identifiable patient information but it was the DOJ that actually violated patient privacy.
Haim told Herridge, “There’s a strong argument to be made that it was the DOJ who was violating the patient’s privacy, because I never released patient information. It was the Department of Justice that released the patient’s initials.”
Herridge and Haim also discussed how the portion of the U.S. Code that Haim was accused of violating doesn’t exist.
Haim’s wife Andrea, who is an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, said, “It’s a typo. This isn’t a typo of ‘their’ versus ‘they’re’ or something like that. This is the operative language of their indictment, the name of the statute that they’re charging with.”
With the help of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), and others, the DOJ moved to dismiss the charges against Haim on Jan 24 of this year.
Haim said that Sen. Hawley had extended an invitation to be his guest of honor on March 4 as President Trump addresses a joint session of Congress.
