Pastors urged to carry on Charlie Kirk’s ‘torch’ and preach against abortion
December 22, 2025
A letter, published last week by Human Coalition, is urging pastors to speak out against abortion and in support of the sacredness of unborn lives as churches see an uptick in attendance following Charlie Kirk’s assassination in Sept.
The Christian Post reports that the letter, published last week by a group of notable Christian conservatives, urges faith leaders to lean into their “responsibility to proclaim the Word of God “without fear or compromise.”
Signers of the letter include Human Coalition President Jeff Bradford, Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Christians Engaged CEO Bunni Pounds and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary President Daniel Akin.
The letter warns that, “Among the great moral crises of our time, none is more urgent or devastating than abortion — the destruction of countless innocent lives created in the image of God,” citing Jeremiah 1:5 and Proverbs 24:11 as evidence of the Bible’s opposition to abortion.
Pastors throughout the nation have reported seeing a spike in church attendance, particularly among young adults, in the month that followed the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at an outdoor event in Utah last September.
According to the Christian Post, other reports have found that Kirk’s death appeared to have “sparked a wave” of spiritual actions, particularly among younger generations.
The letter maintains that Kirk, who frequently spoke about abortion and advocated for protecting unborn lives, passed on a “torch” and that it should not only be carried by public figures.
“It belongs to the shepherds of God’s flock,” states the letter.
The letter continued, “Yet in too many pulpits, this truth is absent. Silence on abortion has become one of the Church’s greatest failings.”
