Ohio Governor Vetoes Bill that Would’ve Banned Chemical Castration of Minors

Gov. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) today vetoed a bill that would have banned chemical castration of minors, saying that his veto was about “protecting human life.”

“Were I to sign Substitute House Bill 68 or were Substitute House Bill 68 to become law, Ohio would be saying that the state, that the government knows better what’s medically best for a child than the two people who love that child the most: the parents,” said DeWine.

U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said he was “extremely disappointed” in hopes the veto is overridden by the Ohio legislature:

Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project (APP) said DeWine “gave into cowardice” by signing the bill, saying in a statement:

“History will forever remember that when courage was called for, DeWine instead gave into cowardice and caved to the transgender industry that is preying on so many vulnerable individuals. Despite the fact that most Republicans and even some Democrats are now seeing this predatory industry for what it is, DeWine still refused to do the right thing.”

The bill had passed the Ohio Senate 24-8 and the House 61-27.
