Russell Brand details his search for meaning in Christian faith while awaiting outcome of investigation into allegations

According to Premier Christian News, comedian and actor Russell Brand has released a video explaining why he wears a cross and detailing his inquiry into Christianity.

In the article, Brand explains:

“The reason I wear a cross is because Christianity, and in particular the figure of Christ are – it seems to me – inevitably becoming more important, as I become more familiar with suffering; purpose; self; and ‘not self’.”

Brand has been the subject of accusations of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse dating back 20 years. Those claims came to light late last year as part of an investigation by The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4.

He was questioned by police in November and December of last year.

In the short video released on social media, Brand does not address the allegations but hints at the difficulties associated with them. Several media outlets have dropped Brand’s work since the accusations became public.

Brand describes his experiences of coming to faith as well as his search for meaning and spiritual truth. The artist has struggled with mental health challenges in the past, including bipolar disorder and bulimia.

He states:

“For me, it seems that it’s taken quite a lot to recognise that you need I need a personal relationship with God. It occurred to me that if instead of always talking to myself, inwardly, I could replace one of those voices with an indwelling God.”

Brand is open about his former promiscuous lifestyle but has staunchly maintained that all of those relationships were “always, absolutely consensual.”

The performer is now a married father of three children and says that he regularly studies the Bible.
