Beloved mother, daughter identified as victims in Richmond Road Baptist Church shooting

Two women killed in a shooting rampage at Richmond Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky have been identified as a 72-year-old mother and her 32-year-old daughter.

The Christian Post reports that Beverly Gumm and her daughter Christina Combs were fatally shot by 47-year-old gunman Guy House, who had earlier shot and wounded a Kentucky state trooper.

According to the Lexington Herald Leader, House entered the church through a back door and encountered Gumm and Combs cooking lunch in the church’s fellowship hall.

House asked for one of Gumm’s daughters and opened fire when he was told she was not present at the church, declaring, “Well, someone is gonna have to die, then.”

Gumm was able to duck House’s first shot but was struck and killed by his second one.

Meanwhile, Combs was fatally shot outside the church where her husband and Gumm’s husband were both critically wounded.

According to the Christian Post, prior to the attack at the church, House allegedly shot a state trooper outside the Bluegrass Airport after being pulled over.

House, who had a long history of criminal behavior and violence toward law enforcement, later carjacked another vehicle in a different part of town.

He was eventually shot and killed by police at the church.

Gumm and Combs were both described as “fantastic moms” who died doing what they loved to do: “Serving the Lord.”
