DOJ employee accused of spiking girlfriend’s drink with abortion pill charged with capital murder

A U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) employee is facing capital murder charges after he allegedly slipped abortion drugs into his girlfriend’s drink, causing her to miscarry.

The Christian Post reports that Juan Banta was booked into the Parker County, Texas jail on one charge of attempted capital murder and one count of tampering with evidence with intent to impair an investigation.

Texas authorities say Banta met with his girlfriend at a coffee shop in October 2024 when he allegedly added Plan C abortion-inducing drugs to her drink.

The woman, who was six weeks pregnant at the time, filed a police report after suffering a miscarriage.

According to the Christian Post, authorities collected Banta’s phone as part of their investigation but found that evidence relevant to the case had been deleted from the phone.

Banta, who works in information technology for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, is suspected of having remotely reset his phone.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Banta and his girlfriend dated for a month before learning that she was pregnant.

According to an affidavit, Banta urged his girlfriend to have an abortion and offered to purchase the abortion drugs online for her, however, the pregnant woman made it clear to Banta that she wanted to keep the baby.

After a meeting at a coffee shop to discuss the pregnancy, the woman went to the emergency room experiencing heavy bleeding and later miscarried.

The woman contacted police after suspecting that Banta had spiked the drink that he ordered for her.

Pro-life advocates and doctors have warned that easy access to abortion drugs makes it easier for women to be drugged without their knowledge or consent.
