Former NFL player Benjamin Watson on why strong men are the pro-life movement’s secret weapon

Former NFL star Benjamin Watson says he believes the key to the pro-life movement’s success might be found in men reclaiming their God-given roles in society.

The Christian Post reports that Watson says manhood has been under attack from the very beginning, saying, “The reason why is because God ordained the role for men to be protectors, providers, priests and prophets in their household. In order to create disorder, you attack families. This is nothing new to the United States. This has been going on for a very long time.”

Watson emphasized that the responsibility for men begins long before the child is born, starting with the way they exemplify love and sacrifice and how they support the mothers of their children.

The former NFL star warned, “If you don’t use your voice to protect women and children, there are other men and other people who will step in and do that to the other side and will look to snuff out that life.”

According to the Christian Post, Watson called for men to step up with courage, conviction and passion rather than allowing themselves to be sidelined by the culture on important issues like abortion.

Part of that stepping up includes not just protecting the unborn but also supporting and uplifting mothers, especially those who are in difficult circumstances.

Though the pro-life movement has seen significant successes lately, Watson says there is more to be done: “We need men. Abortion and so many other social ills will not end or not be curtailed until men make it so. And that’s not to say that women don’t have incredible power. You do, but it goes the way that men allow it to go. The reason why we’re at this point when it comes to abortion is because men have allowed it to be so.”
