From Trump’s immunity to abortion, the Supreme Court’s most controversial decisions this term are about to drop

The United States Supreme Court is poised to release a number of opinions today, Thursday and Friday as it wraps up its current term. Politico reports that among the key decisions expected to be released are cases involving air pollution, abortion, free speech and the presidential race.

Earlier today, the court ruled in favor of the censorship industrial complex by ruling that the plaintiffs lacked standing in the Murthy v. Missouri case where the Biden administration was accused of pressuring social media companies to censor unpopular viewpoints.

Perhaps the biggest decision being awaited is that of Trump v. United States which considers under what circumstances, if any, a former president has immunity from criminal prosecution. Even if the court decides that Trump doesn’t have immunity, it’s unlikely that the criminal case against him could take place before election day.

Justices also have been considering whether federal prosecutors have adopted an overly broad interpretation of the law criminalizing obstruction of an official proceeding in the case of numerous January 6 defendants. The case of Fischer v. United States could undermine special counsel Jack Smith’s case against Trump as well.

In the matter of Moyle v. United States, the Supreme Court is considering whether states with strong anti-abortion laws can be forced to provide abortions under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.

While these are among the more high profile cases, the Court is also expected to render decisions on cases involving interstate air pollution, homeless rights, the scope of federal anti-corruption law and the power of federal agencies.
