‘God Has Not Forgotten Venezuela’: Evangelical Leaders Call for Prayer After U.S. Operation

Venezuelan evangelical leaders are urging calm and prayer following a decisive U.S. military operation early Saturday which saw the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Christianity Daily reports that Venezuelan authorities have acknowledged the incursion with Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez condemning the operation as an act of foreign aggression against the country.

Saturday’s events prompted the release of a statement from the Evangelical Council of Venezuela expressing concern for the nation and called believers to focus on peace.

The council’s statement says, in part, “We extend our prayer and solidarity to all brothers and fellow citizens who are going through moments of uncertainty or fear. We reaffirm our confidence in the sovereignty of God, who reigns over the nations and guides history according to his eternal purpose.”

Aristóteles López, founder of March for Jesus in Venezuela, said from exile in Florida, that Maduro’s capture is an act of divine justice.

López told Diario Cristiano that, in spite of years of national suffering, the outcome shows that God God “never forgot Venezuela.”

While Lopez believes the arrest may represent a turning point for other socialist regimes in the region, he also cautioned that the struggle is not over and called upon the “remnant people” to continue in sustained prayer to see the transition through.

The Trump administration has indicated that it will run Venezuela until a transition can be worked out.
