‘Hot for the Lord’: 4 times Chuck Norris publicly proclaimed his faith in Christ

Actor and martial arts grandmaster Chuck Norris, who died last last week at the age of 86, was renowned for his legendary toughness, yet he also claimed his faith in God as a source of strength.

The Christian Post reports that Norris, who rose to fame as a box office tough guy, was public about his Christian faith and gave four examples of Norris proclaiming his faith in Christ.

In a commencement speech at Liberty University in 2008, Norris recounted how his fame and fortune had left him unhappy and how his marriage to his wife Gena brought him back to his faith.

Norris explained, “It’s like the Holy Spirit hit me and said, ‘Chuck it’s time to come home.’” he later proclaimed, “I was hot for the Lord, and I still am to this day.”

Norris also advocated for the inclusion of Bible studies in public schools, in a 2013 op-ed for NewsBusters. He insisted that the idea was not inconsistent with the principles of the Founding Fathers, specifically Thomas Jefferson.

Norris used the term “religious neutering” series of op-eds responding to a Maryland school district canceling all religious holidays from its school calendar.

According to the Christian Post, Norris warned that the United States was on a “slippery slope” toward religious intolerance and expressed disgust that “We haven’t even hit Thanksgiving yet, and already the war on Christmas is underway.”

In May of 2021, Norris wrote an op-ed for WND.com in honor of the 100th birthday of his mother, Wilma Norris Knight, who lived to be 103.

Norris highlighted his mother’s positive influence on his spiritual life and expressed gratitude for his wife, Gena, as well, writing, “I thank God for you both every day! And I thank you for helping God to make me all I can and should be.”
