JD Vance Says Abortion Debate Is a Choice Between God and Paganism at March for Life
January 26, 2026
Vice President JD Vance described the abortion debate as a moral crossroads between paganism and faith during his remarks at the 53rd annual March for Life rally in Washington D.C. on Friday.
Christianity Daily reports that Vance addressed thousands of pro-life supporters gathered on the National Mall, highlighting recent actions by the Trump administration to pardon imprisoned pro-life activists and stopping federally funded research involving aborted fetal tissue.
During his remarks, the vice president referred to an academic study he had recently reviewed that described archaeological findings of infant remains near ancient brothels.
Vance explained that such discoveries are shocking to those who grew up in a Christian culture and noted that the revelations are shocking, even for those who aren’t particularly faithful.
“But we have to remember that in the ancient pagan world, discarding children was routine. From the skeletons in brothels, to the child sacrifice of the Mayans, the mark of barbarism is that we treat babies like inconveniences to be discarded rather than the blessings to cherish that they are,” Vance said.
Vance stated that Judeo-Christian teachers offer a different understanding of human dignity, supporting Psalm 139’s declaration that people are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God.
According to Christianity Daily, the vice president went on to explain that the March for Life represents a fundamental civilizational choice, rather than just a single policy dispute.
Vance said the March for Life is about “whether we will remain a civilization under God or whether we ultimately return to the paganism that dominated the past.”
The vice president concluded his remarks by reminding those in attendance to seek meaning through commitment to family and life, saying, “To our fellow Americans, we say you’re never going to find great meaning in a cubicle or in front of a computer screen. But you will find great meaning if you dedicate yourself to the creation and sustenance of human life.”
