Lawmakers and Faith Leaders Hold Prayer Gathering Amid Concerns Over Political Violence

Members of the House Freedom Caucus joined in prayer against political violence last Thursday to seek God’s help in what participants in the meeting called a nation in crisis.

Christianity Daily reports that the gathering was guided by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins and asked for wisdom during the ongoing government shutdown and for truth to prevail.

Among the participants was Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) who recalled in his prayer God’s historic faithfulness to America and the “special trust” handed down over generations.

Clyde asked God to strengthen pastors across the nation, asking for “great strength and great courage during this difficult time” to help the nation turn back to Him, stressing that upcoming generations cannot endure without divine help.

According to Christianity Daily, Christian author and apologist Frank Turek also participated in the prayer gathering, praying against what he called a mounting spirit of irrational and demonic anger and violence in the country.

Turek was a friend and mentor to conservative activist Charlie Kirk who was assassinated in September.

Turek invoked a hope that God would bring good from the tragedy and asked for protection from evil schemes, saying, “We know that Charlie’s death was not good, but you brought good from it. We saw the Gospel preached, from the president on down, to more than 100 million people. That has to be a blessing on our nation.”

The prayer gathering concluded with a prayer from Dr. Ben Carson who spoke to the nation’s dependence on God from its beginning and asked for a restoration of righteousness, integrity, and unity across American life.

Carson said, “We ask for your healing upon the divisions in our nation. Our nation is so strong that it can’t be taken down militarily, but it can be taken down from inside. There are many agents trying to facilitate that.”
