One minority overlooked in the national debate about sexuality and gender: Believing Christians

Reconciling differences in faith and sexuality isn’t for the timid, especially during Pride month. But Catholics, Latter Day Saints and Evangelicals met recently at the North Star Conference to help individuals and families seeking to reconcile their own hearts with their faith’s core teachings.

The Deseret News reports that this month, individuals from the three faith communities met to provide encouragement, support and testimony for those who are committed to following a Christian ethic while navigating same-sex attraction.

Members of the Evangelical group Revoice, a Catholic organization called Courage and the LDS organization North Star are all actively ministering to sexual minorities who wish to live in harmony with the teachings of their respective churches.

The focus of last weekend’s conference included drawing closer to God, grappling with unresolved concerns and healing from painful past experiences. Attendees also received counsel on how to strengthen familial relationships and to find greater unity with believers.

Presenters also encouraged participants to learn to see their identity through God’s eyes and to grow their personal faith in Christ. The conference highlighted an often overlooked segment of American society that is rediscovering a hunger for faith.

According to Revoice, a great many LGBTQ+ adults have some past connection to a Christian upbringing and many are returning to their former faith at a 67% higher rate than the average American.
