Planned Parenthood could be stripped of federal family-planning grants over DEI initiatives

The nation’s largest abortion provider stands to lose more than $27 million in family-planning grants after President Trump’s executive order protecting American taxpayers from funding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

The Christian Post reports that no final decision has yet been made by the White House but that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is reviewing Title X family-planning grants to ensure recipients are complying with federal law and Trump’s executive orders.

White House spokesman Kush Desai told the Christian Post, “The Administration supports the proper stewardship and prioritization of taxpayer dollars and will work to ensure all federal grantees are compliant with federal laws prohibiting discrimination.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, HHS is considering freezing the Title X family-planning grant funds while it reviews whether or not “the money was used for diversity efforts,” by the groups receiving it.

Abby Johnson, a pro-life activist who formerly worked for Planned Parenthood, told the Christian Post that the government, “won’t have to look hard to find evidence of DEI practices at Planned Parenthood.”

Johnson added, “I certainly applaud the Trump administration for removing any taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, which we should never fund in any capacity. I hope this is only the beginning of stripping them from every single dime they get from the American public. Women deserve so much better than Planned Parenthood and abortion.”

150 pro-life organizations, led by Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America, delivered a letter to the U.S. Congress yesterday, urging lawmakers to completely defund Planned Parenthood in an upcoming reconciliation bill.

Reconciliation bills require a simple majority of 51 votes to pass the U.S. Senate, unlike most legislation that requires 60 votes. Currently, Republicans control both the House and Senate, making the passage of such a bill more likely.

Planned Parenthood latest annual report claims that the organization received $699.3 million in federal funding between 2022-2023.
