Suspect Arrested in Kansas Church Vandalism; Trump Promises to ‘Take a Look’

A suspect has been arrested by authorities in Wichita, Kansas, following a vandalism attack at St. Patrick Catholic Church that led to cancellation of an evening Mass.

Christianity Today reports that the Wichita Police Department announced the arrest of an unnamed 23-year-old suspect who is being charged with burglary, criminal damage to property, and criminal desecration.

The Saturday morning attack included the smashing of a window, damage to candles, a broken statue, a satanic website being scrawled on a wall and the burning of a U.S. flag.

According to the Kansas Catholic Conference, the attack is believed to be connected to the same group that’s planning to hold a satanic ritual on the grounds of the Kansas State Capitol on March 28.

In response to the attack, President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration would “take a look” at the incident as part of its goal of “eradicating anti-Christian bias” in the U.S.

When asked during an interview what actions his administration might take, Trump responded, “We’re going to take a look. I love Wichita… I got a lot of votes there, and we won that state by a large margin. We’ll definitely examine that.”

According to Christianity Daily, a report from the conservative Christian Family Research Council in Feb. 2024 documented over 400 attacks on churches in 2023, more than double the number reported in 2022.

That report included 315 attacks of vandalism, 75 acts of arson, 10 incidents involving firearms, 20 bomb threats and 37 other incidents.
