The Attorney General of Texas is suing a New York state physician who is accused of illegally sending abortion-inducing drugs to patients in Texas.
The Christian Post reports that Texas AG Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter who is a New York physician and the founder of the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine.
In a statement released by Paxton, the civil complaint against Carpenter seeks penalties against the doctor for violating Texas state laws regarding abortion drugs and which prohibit doctors who are not medically licensed in Texas from providing telehealth services or prescribing medicine to Texas residents.
Paxton’s statement says that Carpenter, “unlawfully provided a Collin County resident with abortion-inducing drugs that ended the life of an unborn child and resulted in serious complications for the mother, who then required medical intervention.”
The woman who received the abortion medicine is a Texas resident and “ended up in the hospital with serious complications” after suffering adverse medical complications.
According to the Christian Post, the state of Texas is seeking a court order preventing Carpenter from continuing to prescribe drugs to Texas patients and also requests civil penalties of $100,000 per violation.
Texas law bans all abortion procedures except for circumstances where a pregnant woman’s life is in imminent danger due to a medical emergency.
