Trump pardons pro-life activists jailed for protesting at abortion clinics

President Trump has signed an official pardon for nearly two dozen pro-life activists who were prosecuted by the Biden administration for unlawfully protesting at abortion clinics.

The Christian Post reports that Trump signed the pardons on Thursday for the 23 activists some of whom were serving prison sentences for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.

At the signing, Trump commented, “Twenty-three people that were prosecuted. They should not have been prosecuted. Many of them are elderly people. They should not have been prosecuted. This is a great honor to sign this.”

Pro-life advocacy groups were supportive of the president’s decision to pardon the activists.

CatholicVote’s Catholic Accountability Project Director Tommy Valentine told the Christian Post, “President Trump’s pardon today of pro-life activists unjustly imprisoned under President Biden is a great credit to his legacy.”

Thomas More Society Senior Vice President and Head of Litigation Peter Breen echoed those sentiments, saying, “Today is a new day for the pardoned pro-life advocates who have suffered FBI raids, federal prosecutions, and severe punishment for peacefully and courageously witnessing for life. We thank President Trump for keeping his promise to these pro-life mothers, fathers, grandparents, pastors, and priests.

The FACE Act law which was used to prosecute the pro-life activists was signed by president Bill Clinton in 1994 in response to a wave of violence against abortion clinics.
