Trump Proclaims Religion Is the ‘Glue that Holds’ America Together

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has reiterated the the importance of religion in the U.S. at the National Faith Summit in Powder Springs, Georgia.

Crosswalk reports that during an interview with Paula White, Trump stated that many of the nation’s problems stem from a diminished emphasis on faith.

Trump told religious leaders at the summit, “We’re going through a lot of problems in our country. If you take a look at the anger, the problems that we have — and a lot of it is that it’s less based on religion now than it was 25 years ago and 50 years ago.”

The former president added, “We were a really, people would say, a Christian and really religious, even other faiths’ country. And that seems to be heading in the wrong direction. I think as that goes down, I think that our country goes down. I really do. I think this is a country that needs religion. It’s like the glue that holds it together, and we don’t have that.”

During the interview, Trump also spoke of the religious background of his parents, describing his mother as “a believer” and relating how his father was a hard-working religious man who would often give money to the homeless.

The National Faith Summit was sponsored by the National Faith Advisory Board.
