Website linked to suspect in Calif. IVF clinic bombing declared ‘war against pro-lifers’

The 25-year-old man suspected of setting off a deadly blast at a California fertility clinic is believed to have called for a “war against pro-lifers” due to his opposition to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The Christian Post reports that Guy Edward Bartkus of Twentynine Palms is considered the primary suspect in the May 17 car bombing which is believed to have killed Bartkus and injured four others.

The car bomb exploded in the parking lot near American Reproductive Centers (ARC) and damaged other businesses including Desert Regional Medical Center, Denny’s, and Palm Springs Liquor.

The ARC was closed at the time of the blast and although the clinic office was damaged, Dr. Maher Abdallah said the lab and embryo storage were not damaged, saying, “We are immensely grateful to share that no members of the ARC team were harmed, and our lab — including all eggs, embryos, and reproductive materials — remains fully secure and undamaged.”

According to the Christian Post, Bartkus is believed to have left behind an anti pro-life manifesto and reportedly had a website that expressed hostility toward Christians and pro-life views.

The website, which is now broken, allegedly included a message stating: “Welcome! Here, you can download the recorded stream of my suicide & bombing of an IVF clinic! Please do redistribute/upload wherever you can, this website won’t stay up for long.”

While Bartkus lived on 29 Palms, the world’s largest Marine Corps training base, a spokesman confirmed to the LA Times on Monday that Bartkus was not a U.S. Marine.

The case continues to be investigated as an “intentional act of domestic terrorism” by authorities.

In a statement released over the weekend, ARC wrote: “We. Choose. Hope. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support during this difficult time. We are humbled by your kindness, strengthened by our community, and filled with hope as we move forward — together.”
